Yes! We are able to see you via telemedicine. Established patients are also welcomed to be seen virtually. For patients living out of state and unable to travel to the clinic, Micah is also licensed in Colorado, Florida, Virginia, and Maryland. Please call the clinic regarding more information about telemedicine visits.
The first visit will consist of reviewing the information you would have provided in your new patient paperwork, as well as other pertinent medical history and life events. Micah is interested in knowing your story and what has brought you to Flourish Integrative Wellness. We want to know the life and medical events from you or your child's conception to the present moment including environmental factors, relationship factors and dietary routines. This whole picture of your life will help guide us to determine which laboratory testing may be needed as well as formulating a detailed, personalized treatment plan. This appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes. We will draw lab work at this first visit and order any specialty lab testing that may need to be completed as well. When determining what lab work may be necessary, we draw comprehensive panels that may include cholesterol levels, protein levels, inflammation markers, a full thyroid panel including thyroid antibodies, heavy metals, hormones, cortisol, iron levels, nutritional markers, vitamin and micronutrient levels and any other diagnostic testing that may be warranted.
We ask that you bring a list of all current medications and supplements you are taking. As well as any recent lab work or other test results. We have also found it is helpful to bring a list of specific questions and/or symptoms you may want to discuss with Micah.
Once lab results are received, you will return to the clinic for a visit (ranging from 30-60 min) where we will discuss in detail the results of the lab work and any specialty testing. We will ensure you fully understand your results, answer all of your questions and develop a personalized treatment plan that may include vitamins/supplements, prescription medications, and other lifestyle and dietary changes. After this visit we will determine the next appropriate timeframe in which we will want to follow up, the average timeframe for this visit is around 3 months.
The frequency of follow-ups will depend on the nature of your illness.
We find most people are feeling significantly better within 6 months but some chronic conditions such as mold illness/chronic inflammatory response syndrome, certain infections, severe toxicities, and autoimmune diseases can take longer. Our long-term goal is to get you feeling well as quickly as possible, and keep you well so we can manage your health with as few appointments as possible.
Micah would love to continue care with any of her previous patients. If you have seen her elsewhere, please call and we will be happy to work with you and continue the great care you have been accustomed to.
As a healthcare practice, we are passionate about what we do, and we feel we have a calling to provide as many people as possible with the highest quality natural health care. Just as our services are unique to this region, our financial policies set us apart from mainstream medicine. We are not in network with any insurance providers including Medicare. We offer visits at a cash rate and payment is due at the time of service. We will however provide you with the billing information you may submit to your insurance carrier for possible reimbursement, if desired.
Many people who have contacted our office for our services have asked us why we do not bill insurance directly. We fully understand the financial challenge this presents to some patients, and we wish there were a way for us to bill your insurance company. We do strive however to keep our office visit prices affordable.
When clinics bill health insurance companies directly, the providers are required to become participating providers. The provider must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not provide and how much they can charge for those services. In general, insurance companies are not focused on any preventive or wellness services. They are heavily invested in the conventional model of health care that too often relies on drugs and surgery. In general, these established fees cover the actual cost of the briefest (and we believe the lowest quality) care. In today’s healthcare environment, the actual cost for providers to provide services continues to rise, while the percentage of reasonable fees that insurance payments cover is declining. At the same time, the profits of health insurance companies and the salaries of their top executives continue to rise to record levels.
We are committed to the functional medicine model that addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms with specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. Unfortunately, we have found that we cannot be a participating provider in the insurance networks and provide the time-intensive, well-researched, expert intensive care that we do.
Traditional/Conventional labs are ordered and can be drawn at our location or at a lab of your choice. We have partnered with Quest and they will file the cost of these tests with your insurance company. The amount covered is dependent on your specific insurance plan. You will be billed directly from Quest for any cost of the labs that may not be covered by insurance.
We have also partnered with Access labs for PPO insurance plans and Medicare/Tricare. We are able to give you a direct price for labs at the time of the lab draw, thus preventing any further bills after the labs are drawn.
If you do not have insurance, we have several labs we use that provide discounted rates for cash pay. Occasionally we find paying cash for labs is cheaper than using insurance.
Specialty labs are ordered through a variety of companies such as Great Plains, Dutch Test, Vibrant America/Vibrant Wellness, Doctors Data, Genova Diagnostics, Cyrex and others. These labs test for food sensitivities/allergies, nutritional status, detoxification status, methylation, mold toxicity, infections, GI digestion and absorption as well as bacterial and fungal overgrowth, genetics and hormone function/pathways. Some tests require urine, stool or saliva, which are typically completed at home. These tests are paid for directly to these specific laboratory companies and are typically cash pay. We do NOT mark up any of our lab testing as many other functional medicine practices do. You can use funds from an HSA to help cover the costs of these tests.
